Skiing with the kids
Keep it fun. Don't get nervous and if you do, don't show it. If you're lucky enough to be going skiing with the kids for half term I'm sure it will be great fun, rewarding but really hard work. Here are a few things we've learnt from our experience with kids on slopes. They will need a lot of refuelling. Eating in cafes on the mountain can be expensive. We always take picnic. Nearly all ski areas have indoor picnic areas for when the weather is cold. If you can't find one just ask. They can be hidden away. And when the weather is good it's fabulous to...
Didn't we have fun the day it rained
Sorting through some old photos and I just came across this one. I remember the day clearly. We had just returned from a wonderful ski trip, playing in the glorious sunlight in the snow. Returning to a drab, grey London. A little fed up. We dressed up for the weather and headed to the deserted park and got filthy and wet! But oh, we had fun. Splashing and sploshing about without a care in the world. Then back home to chocs and a change of clothes. There's no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes. #Dirtisgood #getoutside #getoutdoors
Move over Eva
It’s a lot to live up to. Pre-owned by Eva Walkner, prepared for me by the lovely Jim at EchoBase, a pair of WhiteDot Directors for half term. It’s not that I’m any good but I’m told that these skis will make me look good. Super cool and easy to ride. Apparently its ease of use, playfulness and versatility make the Whitedot Director their best seller. It’s all about lightweight skiing. I think I might just be a lightweight, but lets see if I can keep up with the kids over half term. I will be the one carrying the picnic, along...
Fit and Fifty
After decades of cruising on my age it became clear that if I wanted to keep up with my kids, and some of my favourite hobbies - ski touring, snowboarding, cycling and walking - I would need to put in a bit more effort. After a tough start I’ve almost found my feet in fitness. Nearly fifty and nearly fit. It’s not been an easy journey. Years of partying and two children very close in age took their toll. I joined a couple of classes to make it a little more fun and sociable but now I feel confident enough to go...
Be my Valentine. The perfect getaway.
Finding the spot. So you’re planning a romantic picnic for your chosen one. Where’s the best place to go? Be creative. Think of what a place might mean to you both personally. Find somewhere away from the crowds. Just the two of you. No traffic, no screaming children, no music to be overheard. Perhaps a view, by the seaside or in the deep, dark forest. You could prepare a treasure hunt to lead them to the final destination. If the weather is unkind, highly likely in February, have a back up plan. Perhaps a blindfold route around your home and then into the living room where the picnic...
