Beachin' at St Ives
The final day in Mousehole, we decided to head over to St Ives. Our day out started at The Leach Pottery Museum. Located in St Ives, an unassuming building on the main road giving access to a fascinating tour of the history of the Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada's story of the Leach Pottery, founded in 1920. We saw potters wheels, kilns, clay storage and had a play with glaze painting ending with the gallery and shop of artist's finished pieces. By the time we'd finished in the museum it was lunchtime. We headed to St Ives beach to have a picnic. It...
Lamorna and beyond
Day three in Mousehole. Having enjoyed the previous day running from Mousehole to Lamorna and back I thought I'd head in the same direction, but with more time and snacks. To mix it up a bit I set off across the farm land, after following the footpath through a farm yard - I mean, right through, squeezing down a track between barns and cows. . I soon joined the coast path, taking me onto Lamorna. The cove was quiet. Holiday homes all shut up and one sole person working on the cafe preparing for the school holidays. . After walking around the cove and...
Mousehole to Lamorna
Day two at Dolphin Rise, having been to St Michael's Mount the day before it seemed fitting to explore the South West Coastal Path in the other direction, towards Lamorna. The weather looked perfect for a coastal run. The distance between Mousehole and Lamorna is approximately 2.5 miles. There's a coastal path all the way. I set off from the house, turned right for a short section along the road, then left onto the footpath. A sea view on my left. Heading through the Kemyel Crease Nature Reserve. The south facing slopes are terraced, known as quillets, created to avoid erosion. These...
Mousehole to St Michael's Mount
My first day at Dolphin Rise, Mousehole, I woke to the amazing sea views stretching across to St. Michael’s Mount. It only seemed fit to walk around the South West Coast Path to have a closer look. Mousehole, at the far end of Cornwall, is a picturesque fishing village with narrow streets, colourful houses, and safe harbour for small boats. Following the coastal path onto the larger town of Newlyn. Newlyn is a busy fishing port, with lines of trawlers moored up along the quay. This leads on into Penzance, one of the largest towns in Cornwall with a mainline train link...
Walking the South West Coast Path
What do you do when you've got a couple of weeks off work in between jobs? Making the most of autumn days (and also being incredibly lucky with the weather) PACMAT Pals Katrin and Claudia headed off to walk a section of the South West Coast Path. The Path stretches for 630 miles from Minehead in Somerset along the coasts of Devon and Cornwall with fabulous scenery all the way. Many walkers take about eight weeks to complete the path, often breaking it into sections. Katrin and Claudia only had five days. This is how they split their journey: Day 1 Train to...
