Up to one of our favourites... for a picnic!
Another hot day out on the moor. Having walked Hambeldown the day before, we set off in the opposite direction toward Easden Tor. A short stroll along the road led us to a turn up the hill, where we passed by beautiful hedgerows and took a right-hand path that climbed steadily, through a gate and out onto open moorland. As we followed the path upward, Moss the whippet made the occasional leap over thick gorse bushes. Eventually, we reached the tor, where we found a small, sheltered spot—perfect for a picnic. After a restful stop, we picked up a...
A hot picnic walk, Dartmoor
The weather was hot, so we thought heading higher from the valley would have more breeze. We hadn’t meant for it to turn into a long walk, but it’s always tempting to go just a little further. Up onto the moor... and from there, we spotted the Warren House Inn. We walked towards it, but even after an hour, it didn’t seem much closer. We settled on a rock with a bit of shelter from the wind and sun and unpacked our picnic. After eating, we continued on towards the Warren, hoping for a quick refreshment stop. Leaving the pub,...

Widecombe Fair 2024
A celebrebation of Dartmoor life! "Live music all day long. Devon axe racing championshiop. Vintage displays. Craft & produce. Livestock. Dogshow. Food talls. Bar and more!" It was our 4th time as an exhibitor at Widecombe Fair. We love the excuse to visit a favourite place and catch up with friends. (It was on a visit to my parents, who lived just outside Widecombe, that we came up with the idea of PACMAT in 2015.)The fair is always held on the second Tuesday of September. The earliest recorded fair was back in 1850. It gave an opportunity to sell livestock...
Top of the rocks
Our second day at the farm was looking quite wet. Not deterred by the wather, we kitted up in full waterproofs, packed a picnic and headed out for a walk. This time walking up towards the other tor, heading towards Grimspound. The first part of the walk followed a stream through a magical fairytale like woodland. Curling, entwined branches covered in vibrant green moss. Gradually we got higher, walking up through the bracken, looking back seeing the view of the farmhouse. Snack time! The ground was soaking. We spread out a PACMAT and had a sit down to enjoy the view....
