Our second day at the farm was looking quite wet. Not deterred by the wather, we kitted up in full waterproofs, packed a picnic and headed out for a walk. This time walking up towards the other tor, heading towards Grimspound. The first part of the walk followed a stream through a magical fairytale like woodland. Curling, entwined branches covered in vibrant green moss. Gradually we got higher, walking up through the bracken, looking back seeing the view of the farmhouse. Snack time! The ground was soaking. We spread out a PACMAT and had a sit down to enjoy the view....

Setting off from the farm we walked up the track. The morning had been really wet but the sun was starting to make a show. We walked up the muddy path, turning into a small gateway up onto the moor. We could see a tor from where we were staying, so it seemed only right to walk up and look back at the farm. Heading up and up through the gorse, finally arriving high up at the tor. Unsurprisingly it was breezy and cold but the wind had cleared the sky leaving a fabulous view over the valley and beyond.  Reaching the top...

Guy and Basil have been enjoying a week in Dartmoor. They’ve been staying at the perfect location for winter walks, Lower Hookner Farm.. Their week has been rather wet and windy but they’ve still managed some good walks and even had some glorious, short sunny breaks in the weather. Dartmoor is known for its rugged terrain, exposed moorland, and unpredictable weather. Winter walking here can be beautiful, but it's important to be prepared. What’s Guy got in his bag? Hat (to cover his ears too) Gloves (waterproof) Extra layer (at least!) Buff (worn around the neck or as a hat to stop...

The forecast was good, the younger ones in the group were going to see friends, so we thought it was a good opportunity to plan a longer walk. We chose a spot with a waterfall which promised a wild swim. The perfect place to stop for a picnic. We parked in the car park near the shop and visitors centre in Postbridge. The shop has lots of picnic supplies including rather large veggie pasties. After stocking up we set off along the path. It was a warm day, so we were dressed in T shirts and shorts. The gorse growing over the paths...

It was the last day of our group together on the moor, so we wanted to do something the kids (and adults) would especially remember. We booked in for a half day with Crag 2 Mountain. I'd first came across of Crag 2 Mountain when I was watching Julia Bradbury's Dartmoor Walk on ITV, featured here on The Outdoor Guide. The previous week had been crazily hot so we'd mainly stuck to wild swimming, walking in the shade of the woods or going out early or late. But thankfully the day we booked, we'd got back to Dartmoor weather. It...
