A Mother's Day picnic walk
Make it a memorable day with a picnic.Choose a location. Perhaps a picnic walk (Go Jauntly is great for ideas), or if you don't fancy going too far you could head to your local park.Invite the family. Maybe ask each person to bring a dish to share. Or throw a hiking picnic together to carry in your rucksack. (See our "Just getting out of the house!" picnic to go ideas.) Sandwiches, salads, fruit, cheese and crackers and refreshing drinks. Perhaps some homemade cookies, cupcakes or a fruit tart for pudding.Activities. Plan some activities to keep everyone entertained. Bring along board games, a pack of...
Dartmoor hikes on winter days
Guy and Basil have been enjoying a week in Dartmoor. They’ve been staying at the perfect location for winter walks, Lower Hookner Farm.. Their week has been rather wet and windy but they’ve still managed some good walks and even had some glorious, short sunny breaks in the weather. Dartmoor is known for its rugged terrain, exposed moorland, and unpredictable weather. Winter walking here can be beautiful, but it's important to be prepared. What’s Guy got in his bag? Hat (to cover his ears too) Gloves (waterproof) Extra layer (at least!) Buff (worn around the neck or as a hat to stop...
What do you fill your flask with?
Upping the game of winter walks in Dartmoor with some fabulous toasty flask fillers. It was a proper damp and dark Dartmoor day, so popping into Cafe on the Green seemed like a good plan. (If you haven't been then it's definitely worth a visit. Lots of delicious home cooked food to choose from... and cakes. Oh, good wifi and a very friendly welcome to dogs.) Guy filled his flask with his favourite, strong black coffee, and headed out into the weather. A very short walk and a sit down on a PACMAT of course, with a view of Rippon Tor. The coffee was still...

"It definitely inspired me to visit Arran and also proved very useful!" Said Gill Has your PACMAT taken you somewhere new? We'd love to hear from you. Here’s a snap from her trip. Not everyday's a picnic day!
Our last day on this trip in Bannau Brycheiniog. After packing up and clearing out of our lovely holiday cottage, we headed for a picnic walk on the way home. Parking up by The Black Mountain Quarries, it was tipping down so we got on our waterproofs, with everything in the rucksack being put in a waterproof bag and a waterproof cover over the top of the rucksack too! Nobody wanted wet sandwiches. We headed off into the rain and mist, treading carefully around the mine areas. Walking on up until we reached a cairn marking a high point. Basil...
