A thunder-ful day!
The weather was a bit cooler, so we thought we'd head to Le Tour for some mountain biking. The bikes are allowed on the gondola to the mid station and then up on the chair lift, to Col de Balme. Unfortunately Basil, our dog, isn't much good at mountain biking and he's not allowed on the chair lift. We all travelled on the first lift up together, but separated for the second. I walked up with Basil while the others rode the chair with their bikes. Basil was so pleased to be reunited with everyone again at the top. ...
Best picnic spot yet!
From Chamonix we drove to Switzerland to the Emosson Dam. Rather than heading to the walk across the dam and up to the dinosaur footprints we decided to explore a different direction. The stoney path is fairly gentle, going along the contours, sometimes up, sometimes down. After about forty minutes it opens out onto a green meadow where there's a farm with free range chickens meandering about. Just past the farm is a stream and beautiful green area, perfect for picnicking, with a mountain view in the background. We spent a while here, just enjoying the beauty and the sound...
Big night out
A hike up to the Cheserys, near Lac Blanc in the early evening with a hike tent, a couple of Firepots and a PACMAT for a mini adventure. After the walk up it ended up being quite late to pitch the tent by headtorch! Home sweet home (for the night) with a London Parks Ordnance Survey extension. After a very comfortable night, we woke to the dawn. Followed by a walk up to Lac Blanc, a cup of tea and piece of myrtille cake, a swim to freshen up and a walk back down to the valley. If you want to know...
The Chapeau and beyond
It was a lovely, hot sunny day in Chamonix. We decided to walk up to the Chapeau, perhaps to treat ourselves to a pudding after our picnic on the way up (with our Ordnance Survey PACMAT of course). It's a very pleasant walk through the trees, in the shade a lot of the time, up from the picturesque village L'avancher. As you get closer to the Chapeau the path opens out, crossing a small waterfall stream, getting steeper until you arrive at the Chapeau. . We were ready for some picnic pudding, but not having reserved a place, it was...
Stretching our legs
After a long drive from London to the French Alps we were ready to get out and stretch our legs. The weather was incredibly hot so we thought hard about where we'd get the most shade. Off we went, early the next morning, before the heat really kicked in, to Verslesponts - on the shady side. Walking up through the cool of the trees was wonderful. This then opened out into a meadow which was beautiful, but the heat was too much for some. We stopped at the stream for Basil to cool his feet, and have a picnic. Feeling refreshed,...
