A quick picnic stop at Pen Y Fan
We couldn't go to Bannau Brycheiniog and not do a Pen Y Fan picnic walk! The day started off bright and sunny, but with a wet and cold forecast, the route wasn't too crowded. In fact, we hardly saw anybody. Heading up from the car park the initial part of the walk was quite gentle, revealing more view with each step. Gradually the terrain became steeper and the path narrower. Nearing the top, Basil, wasn't keen on the stony path on his little pads and kept veering off to the left, making me worry with the steep drop. As we reached...
Where there’s a castle there’s a view
Carreg Cennen, built at the end of the 13th century, did not disappoint. Sitting up on a limestone crag, with views for miles over the Carmarthenshire countryside. The castle walk was recommended by our hosts seemed like the best idea for our first day in the area. We packed our bags (picnics for us and Basil, waterproofs, gloves, hats, PACMATs and head torches) and set off on foot from the door of our cottage. After an hour or so we were ready for a snack. Grabbing a brief moment of sunshine we sat down to have our picnic. Happy to have...
South Downs Sunday
We were heading to start our walk at Ditchling Beacon. It's a very popular trail and being a glorious Sunday and with our late start, we figured the parking would be full. We found a little place to park at the bottom of the hill. A good starting point for a steep climb up the grassy banks, quickly reaching the breathtaking views. (Ditchling Beacon is one of the highest points in East Sussex and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the South Downs National Park.) Once we reached the top, we we joined the chalky path and headed along towards Devil's Dyke....
A perfect autumn day for a picnic hike
Cader Idris via the Minffordd Path As the vibrant foliage of autumn embraces the Welsh landscape, there's no better time to embark on an adventure up the legendary Cader Idris, one of Eryri's most captivating peaks. We woke early and set off from our B+B to the Minffordd Path car park. It was a beautiful day, inevitably quite a few others had the same idea. The car park was buzzing with people preparing their bags and footwear for a day out on the mountain. Once ready, we headed off from the car park, crossing a river, past a closed tea room and followed...
