Camping in Zinal, Switzerland
The road twisted and turned, taking us further and further up the valley. Finally, we arrived at the lakeside campsite, a peaceful spot with spectacular mountain views all around us. Well, peaceful apart from the constant ringing of cow bells!
We headed to the café for a snack before setting up our pitch. The pitches with electric for vans were on a bit of a slope, so after a fair bit of to-ing and fro-ing, we eventually managed to get the van level using crocs and a pocket spirit level! (There were a few areas for tents which were perfectly flat, but no electric).
The campsite itself was lovely, with lots of green grass and plenty of space. The café was really nice, although sadly it was closed in the evenings. There was just one shower and toilet for women, but this never seemed to get too busy.
It was a real haven for young kids, with a little boat bridge, playground, viewing platform with telescope, rabbits, hens, goats and cows. The goats and cows even wandered freely around the pitches, which Basil found particularly interesting!
From the campsite, we could walk straight out onto the Haute Route, cycle, or head up into Zinal, where there were shops, restaurants and a lift.
We found a lovely little place, Auberge Alpina, for early evening sunshine and a drink. (They do food and bunk rooms too). It was very friendly, with candle lit tables and just a short walk from the campsite. 
At night, the camp site was wonderfully peaceful (apart from the cow bells), with clear skies and an incredible display of stars.
