A week in Provence - Cassis

Early September in Cassis, South of France, was wonderful. Four nights camping in our van at a busy but well-kept campsite, Camping Les Cigales, soaking in the warm Mediterranean vibe.

Cassis is a small coast town in Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, about 12 miles east of Marseille.

Cassis is famous for its dramatic calanques. Breathtaking rocky inlets with turquoise waters. We were able to walk straight from the campsite, via a bit of a loop around the town, but it wasn't difficult. The hikes on the other hand were quite exhausting, especially in the heat.

The mosquitoes seemed to enjoy our first night a little too much, so the next day we stocked up on repellent and citronella burners, and made sure to keep the van’s window screens in place.

In the evenings, Cassis came alive with rows of bustling restaurants along the waterfront. During the day, the town was just as lively - you can easily book boat trips, go diving, or simply wander the colourful streets and harbour.

The campsite was busy but never felt overcrowded. It was spotless and well-maintained, with a small bar where campers and locals played boule, and a shop for the basics. The supermarket was conveniently close by, too.

We loved camping in Cassis - sunshine, swimming, beach life, and mountain hikes! Plus, the campsite was wonderfully dog-friendly.
