A week in Provence - Aix

We wanted to find a campsite where we were we could easily explore the city of Aix. CityKamp is just on the outskirts. It's a peaceful spot (apart from a slight road noise, to be expected so close to the city). It's possible to hire bikes to explore, but because we had Basil with us we used the bus.

After we pitched our van we went for an explore of the campsite. The toilet and showers had recently been refurbed and were immaculate. The pool was inviting, but it was late in the day, so we settled for a sunset view over the city and a glass of wine at the bar.

The bus stop was easy to find, just outside the campsite. The driver was very friendly and helped us find our stop in the centre of the city. We had a lovely evening out in balmy Aix, but finished a little late for the last bus back to the campsite, so we walked. It only took about 30 or 40 minutes. The site also has electric bikes for hire. The city centre is only a 10 minute cycle away.

There were lots of signs around the camp to warn us about keeping rubbish outside because of the wild boar. I had actually thought it was a joke, but there they were snuffling around outside the toilet block.

What we loved:

  • Excellent value - A very affordable city break. Aix is lovely, but can be pricey, and camping so close to the centre made exploring easy without breaking the bank
  • The pool looked fantastic
  • The toilet block and showers were new and absolutely immaculate.
  • Plenty of shaded, flat and spacious pitches
  • Convenient bus route right outside the site
  • Art galleries, bars and restaurants all in easy reach
  • The bar has a wonderful sunset view
  • The site is open all year round
