A Stop in La Grave

We have always wanted to stay at La Grave. So passing through late in the afternoon on the way back from Provence, the light was low with wonderful warm shadows over the town and surrounding villages, it was just too tempting.

There are two campsites either end of the town. Both had good reviews. We drove down to the first one. The little reception office was bursting with colourful geranium hanging baskets and hanging baskets and the view up to the mountains above was breathtaking. We checked in.

We had a huge choice of pitches. The site is green and grassy with fantastic views everywhere. Plenty of space and hook ups.

The following morning we woke to glorious weather as promised by the lady in the campsite office. It was so lovely we ended up staying for a couple of nights. Taking the gondola up to the top, visiting the ice cave, heading back down to the mid station for a picnic and then walking down the steep path back to the campsite.
We stayed at camping de la Meije
It's open from May until the end of September.
The pitch for our van and two people with electric hook up was 23 euros a night, plus 2 euros for Basil.
The site is immaculate, with twirling washing lines, no shoe policy in bathroom area and a swimming pool (solar heated). It's a short walk into the town up a steep path to a very friendly bar serving veggie burgers.

The camp site at the other end of the town is Gravelotte
