A day out at Hever Castle

A day out at Hever Castle

My sister persuaded me that, despite no training, a 10k race with the Castle Race Series would be a fun thing to do on a fresh autumn morning.

Hever Castle is a great day out for all the family. On the race day (there were several different competitions of which ours was the shortest) there was live music, a yoga work shop and climbing wall.

The week beforehand had been rather wet causing a few problems. Instead of running out of the grounds, our race was to go twice round a course within the castle grounds and the start time was put back.

The PACMAT came in very handy when everyone started feeling the chill.

And playing Dinky Dice Maths Games on the PACMAT kept the younger ones entertained.

When it was time, we walked through to the bag drop. I stuffed the puffa jacket that had been keeping me warm into my PACMAT Carry All, keeping it dry from the damp ground and we walked to the start line. Overhearing comments about the hills and the mud. Here are a few snaps from the actual run:

At the end. Of course, it wasn't a competition... but it was a race to the finish.

And after, relieved to have got there:

Stretching out on my PACMAT to recover visiting the donut van!

After we'd recovered (and scoffed a couple of donuts) we had a fascinating audio tour of the castle (it's where Anne Boleyn grew up).

Before leaving the others and heading back to London we stopped of at a lovely country pub near Pooh Corner.

A good day out.

We should really have had our Kent Downs PACMAT with us. Next time!
