A visit to Marseille

A visit to Marseille

Day one, Marseille.

Starting at the Old port we walked round to the Mucem. Our ticket allowed us in to see all the exhibitions... so we did. After we walked around the wall with sea views then onto le panier with street art, performers, more galleries and boutique shops... veggie food, cafes, live music, dancing. What a day.

Day two, Marseille.

First we walked up… and up to Notre-Dame de la Garde. Our climb was rewarded by 360 views over Marseille.

Then we headed down to the old port to catch a ferry to the Frioul islands. It was busy, but we found a place to sit up front. Quickly realising why it had been free as we passed the harbour wall the wind picked up. We got quite a soaking from the spray!

Exploring the island we found a sheltered spot for a dip. (Only one of us actually went in)… after a picnic we pottered back to get the return ferry.

Back in Marseille we walked to the East of the city, a well known spot to watch the sunset. Passing small fishing harbours on our way and grabbing a local beer from the super market.

After sunset we walked back to have to le Cours Julien. Busy and vibrant well into the night.

Day three Marseille.

Our last day was far more relaxed. Starting with a swim at the beach (for some)… then heading back to the city for a delicious vegan lunch under the shade of the trees. There are lots of vegetarian and vegan cafes.

Followed by a visit to the community cycle shop. Passing the giraffe library then walking out to Friche la Belle de Mai - an old tobacco factory turned cultural centre.

Heading back to the train station we climbed the steps and caught our bus home.

What a city.
